In Senior Three, Joanita’s parents could not afford her education and the daddy approached Save Household Uganda for education support. Joanita studies hard  and after successfully  passing  Senior Four she joined Kampala University School of Nursing and Health Science studied and completed her course in March 2021. “ I am now working as an enrolled Midwife at Doctor Plus Medical and Laboratory Service located in Kisaasi- Central Kampala where I am able to take care of myself and as well give assistance to my family anytime they need it.” Joan remarks. My appreciation goes to Eng. Rob Ferry and his dear wife Mrs. Kathy Ferry who have made it possible for me to realize my dream by paying school fees for my education.

Abaasi’s story

Abaasi is the first born in a family of three children. His father Mr. Jabeli Kayanja is a retired civil servant. His mother, Ms. Sarah Ndagire is a housewife. Education and acquiring the basic needs has been their biggest challenge due to low income. In order to top up his tuition and support the family, Abaasi did odd jobs such as working as a potter on construction sites. This search for school fees made him miss classes several times.

On one particular day, Godwin the Founding Director Save Household Uganda spotted a teenager hardworking boy at the construction site. Very concerned why such a young boy was working on a site carrying heavy loads and not at school, Godwin asked Abaasi about his life and discovered he was looking for school fees. It is then that he was enrolled to the Save Household Uganda Scholarship Program while he was in Senior Three.

The 20-year-old Abaasi is currently at Kyambogo University, second year pursuing Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting and Finance with a dream of being a Banker.  All this has been possible because Eng. Rob Ferry and his dear wife Mrs. Kathy Ferry.

Joyce’s story

Joyce’s father died in a motor accident when she was two years old. Her single mother Christine could barely afford family basic needs. One day while on a Field visit in Kisoga, the team from Save Household Uganda (SHU) identified Joyce as one of the most vulnerable yet a bright student. Joyce was in Grade Five then. Save Household Uganda intervened by giving the mother two pigs donated by Dr. John Ferry and his dear wife Dr. Diane Ferry to start a piggery project from which they would get income to at least pay school fees for her lower education and other basic needs.

In 2015 while Joyce was in Senior three, Godwin sent a request for her scholarship to Eng. Rob and Cathy Ferry who graciously accepted, and the couple has since then sponsored her to date. She is currently a third year Student of Education at Kyambogo University majoring in Divinity and Economics. I wouldn’t have gone to Advanced Level or even University, I would probably be married or wasted. Now I can even contest for Member of Parliament” Joyce remarks. Joyce’s story is typical of a vulnerable child in Kisoga whose hope is restored

Joyce has completed her undergraduate degree in Education majoring in Economics from Kyambogo University and is currently doing her School Practice as her last course unit
